Keeping Current is Not in the Cards

...so I think like other things in life I'm putting too much pressure on trying to keep up with this blog...which clearly isn't happening. But with the encouragement of a blogger extraordinaire (you know who you are mama) I'm just going to try to post as I can. Forget the neat chronological account of our lives, instead this blog will reflect more of the truly haphazard pieced-together nature of our real lives.

This week we've been especially enamoured with the growing things in our lives: our plants and catepillars. The girls and I built a raised garden bed for experimenting with growing flowers from seeds and it is really taking off. It is a real step up from the single row of sunflowers last year. We also have a nice row of zinnias and dahlias out front but they are so often engulfed by our out of control grass (that's another story about neighborhood disorder).

Here's we are the day we built the raised bed:

Natalie and Mikaia were particularly impressed by my use of a power tool. After putting the three sides together I let them use the drill/screwdriver to put on the last brackets. They were so proud of themselves!!

So look for an update about how our box is coming along. We planted it with mammoth sunflowers, tall zinnias, cosmos, poppies, daisies and lavendar. It should be spectacular. I hope the flowers are ready in time for the release of our butterflies. That's right, we are raising butterflies!

I got Mikaia this cool butterfly garden for her birthday (http://www.amazon.com/Insect-Lore-1010-Butterfly-Garden/dp/B00000ISC5). Our catepillars in the larvae stage arrived last weekend. The catepillars have already grown 10x their original size and they should be ready to form their chrysalis soon. I am crossing my fingers that the whole project makes it to fruition with LIVE butterflies. So far, so good.

Here is a picture of our sunflowers from last year. Can't wait to see how our new garden turns out this year!

Peace, Love and Light.
